A leading independent power producer (IPP) with a diversified portfolio spanning solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and gas-fired generation is seeking a VP of Project Development. With 37 GW of projects, the company is actively developing 800 MW of new projects annually while pursuing select acquisitions to enhance its portfolio.
The Vice President, Project Development will lead the development of utility-scale solar, BESS, and gas-fired generation projects across ERCOT, PJM, CAISO, and NYISO. This role is responsible for advancing projects from site identification through permitting, interconnection, and construction readiness. Additionally, the VP will support the commercial team in conducting due diligence on acquisitions, ensuring alignment with development objectives.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in project development, having successfully led the development of renewable and thermal power generation projects within an IPP, developer, or utility.
Project Development
Lead the development of 800 MW of solar, storage, and gas-fired generation projects annually.
Oversee site identification, permitting, interconnection, environmental approvals, and engineering to advance projects through key milestones.
Engage with landowners, utilities, grid operators, and local stakeholders to ensure project success.
Manage relationships with EPC contractors, consultants, and regulatory agencies to maintain project schedules and budgets.
Market Strategy
Direct interconnection studies, applications, and grid impact analyses to secure transmission capacity for projects.
Work closely with ISO/RTOs (ERCOT, PJM, CAISO, NYISO) to navigate interconnection processes.
Support offtake structuring and PPA negotiations by collaborating with the commercial team.
Acquisition Due Diligence
Work alongside the commercial team to evaluate acquisition opportunities, providing technical and permitting due diligence on late-stage and operational projects.
Assess project viability, ensuring compliance with interconnection, environmental, and permitting requirements.
Leadership & Team Development
Lead a team of project developers and analysts, overseeing the full lifecycle of project development.
Coordinate cross-functional teams, including engineering, finance, regulatory, and legal groups.
Provide strategic input on market expansion, policy impacts, and new project opportunities.
Key Qualifications:
15+ years of experience in renewable energy, battery storage, and/or gas-fired project development.
Proven track record of advancing projects from early-stage development through construction.
Strong understanding of ISO/RTO processes, permitting, and interconnection requirements.
Experience managing PPA negotiations and project financing considerations.
Ability to assess acquisition opportunities from a development perspective.
Strong leadership skills, with experience managing cross-functional teams.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
