Job Summary
The Structural Design Engineer is responsible for creating and evaluating structural designs for real estate projects. This includes residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments. The role involves ensuring that designs are safe, cost-effective, and compliant with local building codes and regulations. The Structural Design Engineer collaborates with architects, contractors, and other engineers to deliver high-quality designs that meet the functional and aesthetic requirements of the project.
Key Responsibilities:
Structural Design:
Develop detailed structural designs for buildings, ensuring safety, functionality, and compliance with local and international standards.
Perform calculations for load-bearing structures such as beams, columns, foundations, and slabs.
Utilize industry-standard design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, ETABS, SAP2000, STAAD Pro) to create and modify structural drawings.
Project Coordination:
Collaborate with architects, MEP engineers, and other project stakeholders to ensure integration of structural elements within the overall design.
Provide technical support to the project team throughout the construction phase, ensuring the designs are implemented correctly.
Conduct site visits to monitor construction progress and resolve any structural issues that arise.
Code Compliance & Safety:
Ensure that all designs comply with local building codes, safety regulations, and sustainability standards.
Perform structural analysis to assess risks, including seismic, wind, and load-bearing assessments, ensuring all designs meet or exceed safety standards.
Materials & Cost Estimation:
Select appropriate materials for the project based on strength, durability, cost, and environmental considerations.
Estimate the quantities of materials required for construction, working with procurement teams to manage costs.
Quality Control & Documentation:
Review and verify design documents to ensure accuracy and quality before submission for approval.
Maintain and organize detailed records of calculations, designs, correspondence, and meeting minutes.
Collaboration & Reporting:
Report project progress, issues, and solutions to senior engineers and management.
Participate in design reviews and meetings to provide feedback on design solutions and recommend improvements.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s degree preferred).
Experience:
Minimum of 14+ years of experience in structural design, preferably in real estate or construction projects.
Experience with structural design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, STAAD Pro, SAP2000).
Familiarity with real estate development processes and regulations is a plus.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong knowledge of building codes, design standards, and structural engineering principles.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
Problem-solving ability and critical thinking for addressing design challenges.
Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in structural design and documentation.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under tight deadlines.
